Two of eight waterfalls on the Pili side of Mt. Isarog |
The Municipal Government of Pili has entered into an stewardship agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for 161 hectares of land on the shoulders of Mt. Isarog with tourism potentials, this was disclosed by Mayor Alexis D. San Luis this week.
The covenant was among the first documents executed by newly-installed DENR Regional Executive Director Joselin Marcus E. Fragada and Camarines Sur Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Francisco Milla, Jr.
88 of the 161 hectares will be devoted to eco-tourism while reforestation will be undertaken in the remaining 73 hectares.
At the same time the Municipal Government of Pili endorsed the proposed tourism economic zone within the Provincial Capitol Complex of the Camarines Sur Provincial Government at Cadlan, Pili provided that the area is no longer under litigation and does not include lots already allocated and being paid for by Capitol officials and employees.
The signing of stewardship agreement paves the way for the implementation of the tourism development plan for the capital town which Mayor San Luis has vigorously pushed since he assumed last year.
Mayor San Luis said that there are at least eight waterfalls in the area covered by the stewardship agreement which will be magnets for local and foreign tourists once necessary infrastructures are emplaced.
The Japanese Monument for hundreds of Japanese soldiers who fought and died at the site during the war more than 65 years ago is also within the area.
Mayor San Luis said Congressman Luis R. Villafuerte is supporting his tourism development plan.
