UNC grad 5th in bar exams

John Michael S. Galauran

The University of Nueva Caceres here in Naga City scored another major achievement after one of its graduates placed fifth in the bar examinations held in September last year whose results were released last March 29.

The UNC bet, John Michael S. Galauran of Naga City, notched a rating of only 81.60% but it was enough for him to duplicate a historical UNC feat which current UNC College of Law Dean David C. Naval attained in 1960 when he also placed fifth in the bar examinations.

Only 1,289 out of 5,626 examinees or 22.91% passed but Dean Naval said UNC had a passing rate much higher than the national average.

Galauran was a scholar in the UNC College of Law but failed to graduate with honors due to a deficiency in just one subject. He finished AB Political Science at Ateneo de Naga University Cum Laude.

Dr. Dolores H. Sison, UNC President, expressed elation over the latest achievement of her school, the first university in Southern Luzon outside of Metro Manila and concededly among the best educational institutions in this part of the country. UNC is celebrating its 60th year or diamond anniversary.

19 UNC Law graduates in all passed the bar examinations. The other UNC successful examinees whose ratings were not yet known at press time, one or two of whom may have placed among the top 20, include Rhys Michael S. Abundabar, Imee M. Abardo-Estrada, Ismael A. Albao, Francis Rael C. Bitara, Jo Aileen A. Cabiles, Marwin M. Cortezano, Amando M. Cura, Emilio D. Escueta III, Jorcery V. Fabi, Armeen Alain B. Gomez, Mary Ann C. Legarto, Rene Cornelio R. Morano IV, Paulino A. Moreno, Jr., Janis Mahalia A. Orbita, Alex Alberto Popanes, Art R. Teoxon, Gerard N. Turiano and Carlo C. Villanueva, Jr.
