The otherwise peaceful barangay election in Camarines Sur was marred by the killing of a winning candidate for barangay kagawad at New Moriones, Ocampo hours after the canvassing of votes was concluded last October 29.
Killed was barangay Kagawad Ramon Ortua Comprado, 57, who was hacked to death and suffered bolo wounds in various parts of the body including the head.
Police identified the assailants as Heriberto Filipino, his son Roberto Filipino, Gervacio Racasag, Jr. and Maripol Martillos who all came from a drinking spree.
The incident took place at around 12 o’clock mid-night of October 29 after the house of the victim was first stoned allegedly by the assailants while challenging the victim to come out.
The victim was said to be have a long standing quarrel largely due to politics with the assailants who were supporting candidates of the opposing camp since the May, 2007 election.
The victim was a known supporter of incumbent Ocampo Mayor Leonilo Sarte. During the barangay elections he supported former barangay captain Claro Cortezano who lost.
Police said the life-less body of the victim was found in the middle of a ricefield where it was believed to have seen dragged or carried from the alleged crime scene hours after the incident.
At presstime, the suspects were still at large, but a formal complaint has been filed with the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
