Prof. Ruiz |
Prof. Raul Bonagua Ruiz has recently been chosen president of the Camarines Sur State Agricultural College Faculty Union which covers not only the CSSAC main campus at San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur but also the Bicol Institute of Technology in Sipocot, the Calabanga Polytechnic College and the CSSAC Pasacao Extension.
Prof. Ruiz who has been with the CSSAC faculty for the last 32 years is presently director of the Caramoan Residents Association in Naga City and its Environs (CRANE) and is married to Maria Linda Borre Ruiz, also from Caramoan, who is also teaching at CSSAC.
Elected with Ruiz were: Francisco M. Ronquillo, vice president, Sipocot Campus; Michelle Mojico, vice president, Calabanga Campus; Felipe C. Dalanon, Jr., vice president, Main Campus; Charlie Nacario, secretary; Maria Victoria B. Refereza, treasurer; Gene V. Cataneo, auditor; Domingo Silerio, public information officer; and Allan B. del Rosario, business manager.
Following his election, Ruiz pledged to strengthen the faculty scholarship program to hasten the professional growth of the faculty especially at this period that the college is aspiring through legislation to have CSSAC converted to a state university. A bill filed by Congressman Luis R. Villafuerte for the purpose was passed by the House of Representatives in the previous Congress but was among hundreds of bills that remained unacted upon by the Senate.
Congressman Villafuerte refiled the same bill as soon as the present Congress convened.
The faculty unionpresident also wants the Collective Negotiation Agreement (CNA) between the faculty and the CSSAC administration reviewed, the constitution amended to be more relevant to present developments and the college code firmed up.
Ruiz said the present faculty union would seek greater transparency in the management of school affairs and support efforts towards technological advancement and progressive, rationalized mobilization of college resources.
