LEGAZPI CITY — Albay governor Jose Ma. Sarte Salceda as the new chair of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in Bicol would prefer that the RPOC would be a proactive group in relentless and aggressive quest for peace and development.
The RPOC in its special meeting at Camp Simeon Ola here, on Thursday,
August 30 was reorganized with the entry of newly elected local chief executives as members following the May 14, 2007 elections.
Salceda was unopposed in the selection of the new chairman of the RPOC in Bicol to replace former Masbate Governor Antonio Kho who has served his third term as Masbate’s provincial governor. Kho is now serving as Masbate’s 2nd district Representative after he won the post in the May elections.
New Masbate Governor Olga Kho, better half of Congressman Kho, was chosen as deputy chair of the Bicol RPOC.
Salceda in his bid to make the RPOC a venue for action and “not a debating club” formed a three-man committee tasked to formulate an effective mechanism for a more coordinative government and civilian cooperation in peace and development efforts in the region.
He picked the regional heads of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Philippine National Police, (PNP), and National Police Commssion (NAPOLCOM) to comprise the three-man committee.
Salceda also called on the member agencies of the RPOC to provide full support to the up-coming observance of the National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) from September 1-7, spearheaded by the NAPOLCOM.
This year’s NCPW celebrations has for its theme “Crime Prevention: A Global Concern” and “Mapayapang Pilipinas, Masaganang Bukas” as slogan. (EANunez PIA)
