These are some of the many questions that may be answered in the latest book, “Microfinance Handbook” by Central Bank of the Philippines Monetary Board Member Nelly Favis-Villafuerte just recently off the press.
The 413-page book, 6”x9” in size and costing only Php 595 per copy is considered to be the most comprehensive and most up-to-date guidebook on microfinance. Microfinance is one of the most effective ways of improving the lives of people especially in the countryside.
Ms. Villafuerte who was Undersecretary of the Department of Trade and Industry before joining the Central Bank Monetary Board is the wife of Congressman Luis R. Villafuerte and mother of Governor L-Ray Villafuerte.
The senior valedictorian of the UP College of Law in 1959 and 7th placer in the bar examinations that same year, Ms. Villafuerte is also a professor of International Marketing Management at the Asian Institute of Management, Ateneo Graduate School for Business and De La Salle Graduate School of Business and Economics.
She was conferred the 2004 AIM Honor and Prestige Award for Outstanding Government Service and the 1996 Presidential Award for Outstanding Woman in Media and Journalism.
A former editor of Panorama, the Sunday magazine of the Manila Bulletin, she runs the columns “Gentle Breeze” and “Expert Action Line” in the Manila Bulletin. She was also the executive producer of the GMA 7 TV program “Business Today” from 1992 to 1995.
Ms. Villafuerte is also author of the books “Understanding Cyberspace” and “Handbook on Exporting”.
