Hundreds of tourists are expected to troop to the coastal town of Caramoan in the northeastern side of the province of Camarines Sur facing the island province of Catanduanes starting May 1 up to the town fiesta on May 8, the entire period covered by the Balik Caramoan 2007 festival.
Dr. Rhodora Roa-Perez, chairperson of the Balik Caramoan 2007 project of the Caramoan Residents Association in Naga City and its Environs (CRANE) said scores of Caramoanons from abroad, Metro Manila and other parts of the country have confirmed with the secretariat that they are coming home for the week-long festivities.
The festival is broadly aimed at unifying Caramoanons to help accelerate development of the town which has vast tourism potentials, mineral and agriculture resources.
Activities will include sports competitions, exhibits, musical and cultural contests, parades and socials topped by the Miss Caramoan Pageant and the Bikini Open which will be participated in by beauties from all over the Bicol Region.
Balik Caramoan 2007 is an undertaking of the CRANE in cooperation with the Caramoan local government headed by Mayor Francis Benemerito and supported by a team of local coordinators from the local government, the DepEd and several local organizations and volunteers who envision the occasion as a reunion for Caramoanons.
It is supported by the Department of Tourism.
At press time, Dr. Perez reported that Gov. L-Ray Villafuerte has pledged give financial assistance from the provincial government while sponsorships are still being worked out with a handful of government agencies and business establishments.
