Bishop Garcera installation at Daet slated on June 30

Garcera will be installed as Bishop of Daet on Saturday, June 30, 2007, a day after he is formally ordained as bishop on June 29 at Our Lady of Peñafrancia Basilica Minore here in Naga City.

A native of Magarao, Camarines Sur, Msgr. Garcera as appointed by Pope Benedict XIV and his appointment was published in Rome on April 7, 2007 on the same day that the Pope accepted the resignation of Most Rev. Benjamin Almoneda, D.D. who had reached the age of 75. Most Rev. Almoneda had been Bishop of Daet since 1991.

Msgr. Garcera had served as Assistant Parish Priest of the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral, Director of the Caceres Catechetical Ministry and Vice Rector of the Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, Parish Priest of the San Francisco Parish in Naga City and Administrative Director of Radio Veritas Asia.

He is currently the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies and Executive Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ Commission on Mission. Only 48 years old, Msgr. Garcera will be the third bishop of Daet. The first Daet bishop was Most Rev. Celestino Enverga, D.D., who served from 1974 until succeeded by Most Rev. Almoneda in 1991.
