Another decisive mandate for LRV
With just over two weeks to go before the May 14 elections, Congressman Luis R. Villafuerte is assured of victory in his reelection bid for congressman in the Second District of Camarines Sur, far more decisive than his 2004 margin over his same rival, former Congressman Sulpicio Roco. Congressman Villafuerte is predicted to post another phenomenal margin reminiscent of his last candidacy for governor in 2001 when he won by a margin of over 200,000 votes over superstar Nora Aunor. Congressman Villafuerte’s exemplary performance in Congress from the time he assumed his legislative post is sufficient credential to reinstall him and enable him to pursue greater opportunities not only for constituents in the district but for the whole province of Camarines Sur and the Bicol Region, political observes conceded. Consistently chosen No.1 in the list of Outstanding Congressmen in the Philippines from 2004 to 2006, Congressman Villafuerte has chalked up an amazing record of filing 89 bills and 33 resolutions of local and national applications, all passed in the House of Representatives.
As a first-termer he is not supposed to chair yet any House committee, but he has set a precedent by becoming chairman of the Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture and vice chairman of eight other committees while being member of some 15 other committees. Among the important committees of which he is vice chairman is the Committee on Appropriations. Upon his reelection, Congressman Villafuerte is considered a cinch to assume the chairmanship of the Appropriations Committee which would be a tremendous advantage for his district as well as the whole province.
Congressman Villafuerte has mainly influenced the decision of the present national leadership to pursue the rehabilitation and modernization of the PNR South Line, including its extension up to Sorsogon from Legazpi City. Implementation of the multi-billion project is slated to commence very soon with assistance from the government of the Republic of China.
Within just three years Congressman was able to have around P500 million allocated for his district in various infrastructure projects and education-related undertakings and social services.
There is hardly any barangay in the Second District without a project initiated by Congressman Villafuerte.
