Two of the most colorful and highly qualified candidates for provincial board members in Camarines Sur are KAMPI official bets Alex Quillope and Stephen Sadia who are angling for the two seats in the Third District of the province covering the towns of Tigaon, Goa, San Jose, Sagñay, Lagonoy, Tinambac, Siruma, Presentacion, Garchitorena and Caramoan.
Both young and very much in the thick of their present preoccupations, Quillope and Sadia exude the optimism, vigor, drive and determination that the constituents look for from their prospective leaders especially in the Third District of the province which remains largely depressed notwithstanding the claim of the Fuentebellas that they had triumphantly ruled the district for 100 years.
The practically zero performance of Congressman Noli Fuentebella from 2004 has added to the woes and miseries of the Third District where vast resources in tourism, minerals and agriculture await productive utilization.
Alex Quillope is a man to watch.
A graduate of the Philippine Merchant Marine School and Philippine Merchant Marine Academy where he earned his Master in Ship Business Management, Quillope owns a maritime school, the Columbus Maritime College in Lucena City, and has investments in at least four shipping businesses here and abroad.
Quillope is president and CEO of the APQ Shipmanagement Co., Inc. and managing director of the Mariners Consultancy and General Services. He is also managing partner of the APQ Crew Management International with address at Piraeus, Greece and the APQ Crew Management USA, Inc. with offices at Florida, USA.
Quillope has helped hundreds of residents from Partido towns land jobs as seamen and plans to expand his program to provide employment opportunities for jobseekers in the area outside of shipping.
Quillope is a native of Sagñay, Camarines Sur where he was born in 1963 to parents Vicente Ben Buela Quillope and Salvacion Tria Pandes.
On the other hand, Stephen Sadia is a seasoned political strategist who had served as councilor of Goa, Camarines Sur for two terms from 1992 to 1995 and 1995 to 1998 and who was public affairs officer of Congressman Eduardo Pilapil, the present KAMPI gubernatorial bet, from 1988 to 1992 after Pilapil trounced the vaunted late Senator Edmundo Cea in the 1988 congressional race, and again from 1998 to 2001 when Pilapil once more served as congressman as a Party List member representing the Veterans’ Federation of the Philippines.
A law graduate of the University of Nueva Caceres and a campus leader during his college days having among things served as Grand Archon of the Nu Kappa Phi Fraternity and held several other key positions in the student government, Sadia almost made it to the provincial board when he ran as an independent several years ago, which would have set a record.
He enjoys a big following among the youths who share with him his idealisms more particularly towards honest, dedicated service to the people.
He believes with his gubernatorial candidate Eddie Pilapil that the clamor for a new provincial leadership compatible with the culture and values of the people must be heeded.
He said respect for parents and elders is paramount because it is not only embedded in our culture but it is the fourth of the Ten Commandments which explicitly said: Honor thy father and thy mother.
Sadia said development priorities of the provincial government of the present provincial government do not respect the sentiments of the people.
He cited the fact that the provincial government had put up the controversial water sports complex which is said to have cost P150 million when the basic tourism development needs especially in the Caramoan Peninsula had not at all been addressed.
The capitol facility was built simply to suit a personal whim and caprice, the upcoming Third District leader said. He said the manner it was built may even be questioned later.
