Academic Award for English, Departmental Award for Science, Metro Drug Corporation Excellence in Science Award and the St. John the Evangelist Award for Service.

The batch valedictorian is associate editor of the Ateneo publication, The Blue and Gold and member of the school debating team. He was recently sent to Japan under the exchange visitor program.

It was a very close race with Joseph Ian Amparado Papillera who came out salutatorian and also garnered First Honors Award, Departmental Academic Awards for Computer, English and Religion and Mayoral Award for Academic Excellence. He is also recipient of the coveted Bro. Sergio Adriatico, S.J. Memorial Award.

Papillera was also valedictorian when he finished his elementary at the Naga Central School II.

Both Alarkon and Papillera, who are close friends, passed the scholarship examination at the Ateneo de Manila University and are entitled to full scholarship throughout their college courses. They also passed the entrance exams at the University of the Philippines.

Alarkon is the eldest son of Engr. Francis C. Alarkon and Engr. Ma. Luisa Peña-Alarkon, both employees of the Provincial Engineer’s Office of Camarines Sur who are both members of the Caramoan Residents in Naga City and its Environs (CRANE).

Papillera is the son of Joseph Bataller Papillera, an employee of CSPC-BCAT and Ma. Rowena Amparado Papillera of Bula, Camarines Sur. They now reside at Cararayan, Naga City.

Alarkon was always an honor student but was not on top of his class until he developed a study habit which he rigidly followed with the guidance of his parents.

He said he achieved the feat because he focused on his studies and avoided the distractions hounding present-day adolescents.
