Unlike other Camarines Sur towns which have multiple aspirants for mayor, Caramoan will only have incumbent Mayor Francis Benemerito and Engr. Constantino Cordial slugging it out in the coming May elections. Both camps predict a close race.
Benemerito who is running under Lakas-CMD will have Boyet Culvera as his running mate while Cordial is paired with political veteran and incumbent Vice Mayor Juan Cordis, Jr. who had already served as mayor.
Both camps are optimistic but Benemerito being the incumbent and presumably with better logistical support is believed to have the advantage. Conceded to be an honest administrator, Benemerito’s weakness is said to be his frequent absence from the town because of his weekly trips to Manila. Benemerito is the Lakas-CMD bet.
On the other hand, Cordial who was a Manila-based contractor before he decided to enter politics, had concentrated on his campaign in the barangays, penetrating mountain and far-flung coastal barangays since last year. He is running under the NPC.
Benemerito’s candidates for councilors include incumbent councilors Vicente Azaña, Lydia Obias, Celestino Enciso and Edgar Alvarez who are joined by newcomers David Sarmiento, Leopoldo Rodavia, Oscar Padua and Virgilio Gianan.
In Cordial’s ticket for councilors are incumbent councilors Romeo Marto and Adelfa Purisima, Other candidates are Juanita Belleza, Ermundo Ruiz, Felicizimo Villrete, Diego Cepeda, Irene Breis and Carlos Chavez.
