Mayors sign manifesto of support for Pilapil
More than 80 incumbent municipal mayors and vice mayors and candidates for mayors and vice mayors throughout Camarines Sur this week signed a manifesto pledging support for the candidacy of former Tourism Secretary and Congressman Eduardo P. Pilapil for governor of Camarines Sur and Atty. Gerardo Felipe “Butch” Ortega for vice governor.
The unified move is backed up by Congressman Luis R. Villafuerte, Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya, Jr., and Congressman Felix R. Alfelor, making Pilapil the more formidable contender for the governorship of the premiere province in the Bicol Region.
In committing to support the candidacy of Pilapil and his running mate Ortega, the municipal executives cited three premises for their decision, all obviously underscoring the lapses and failures of incumbent Governor L- Ray Villafuerte:
1. The provincial leadership must recognize the need for consultation with leaders and constituents on development and policy priorities rather than impose and arrogate on them;
2. Leadership must be anchored on sound principles, pursuit of common and accepted programs and idealisms and genuine rapport with the people and should not be measured by monetary considerations; and
3. It is the primordial and moral duty of the provincial leadership to endeavor to enhance the culture and values of the people, particularly on the matter of giving due respect to peers and elders and humane consideration to subordinates and that the provincial leadership must lead by example in promoting our culture and values so that these virtues could be absorbed and imbibed by the youth.
