FOR HIDING ASSETS - One more graft case filed against Robredo

One more graft complaint has been filed against Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo by former City Councilor Emilio Aguinaldo bringing to more than 50 the administrative and criminal cases against the city executive filed by the erstwhile city official.

The latest filed with Tanodbayan (Ombudsman) Merceditas N. Gutierrez last February 7, 2007 was a complaint for violation of R.A. 3019 and R.A. 6713 for allegedly not stating in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Network (SALN) that he owned a condominium unit at 20 Lansbergh Place Condominium, specifically Unit 15 D situated on the 15th Floor of the Building at 170 Tomas Morato Avenue, corner Scout Castor, Quezon City.

Earlier, Aguinaldo had also filed a perjury case against Mayor Robredo for not also stating in his SALN for 1996 that he then had relatives in the government at the time including his father-in-law, then RTC Judge Antonio Gerona, his sister Josephine Robredo Bundoc and brother-in-law Rafael C. Bundoc.

Robredo also failed to disclose his business interest and financial connection with the Naga Metropolitan Ventures Corporation (NMVC), a real estate family corporation.

Aguinaldo said he has filed more than 50 administrative and criminal cases against Mayor Robredo, some involving falsification of public documents, and many which he believed are backed up by strong evidence are still pending with the ombudsman.

In his counter affidavit in the previous SALN case when he did not disclose his business interest in the real estate firm and his relatives in the government, Mayor Robredo alleged that it was “mere inadvertence”.

The allegation could be repeated in the latest case, Aguinaldo said, while it is obvious that Robredo is hiding from the public his assets acquired while he is mayor.
