IN THE 3RD DISTRICT It’s final: Pilapil is administration bet

Former Congressman Eduardo Pilapil will be the administration candidate for congressman in the third district of Camarines Sur.

Congressman Luis R. Villafuerte, who is KAMPI national president, confirmed this week that in a dialogue this month 2004 aspirant Atty. Ted Cruz agreed to give way to the former solon who is widely considered to have the best chance to unseat incumbent Congressman Noli Fuentebella.

C ongressman Villafuerte emphasized that he has a standing arrangement with Speaker Jose de Venecia, president of Lakas-NUCD, that in certain provinces where Lakas is the dominant pro-administration party the Speaker would choose the candidates but in areas like Camarines Sur where KAMPI is dominant he would select the candidates.

Congressman Villafuerte also disclosed that presidential son Dato Arroyo who is running for congressman in the First District of Camarines Sur has taken his oath as KAMPI member.

Aside from having served as congressman from 1988 to 1992 Pilapil was Postmaster General from 1993 to 1995 during which he effected the modernization of the postal system. He was author of the law that created the Postal Bank and the law that rehabilitated the Philippine Veterans Bank.

Pilapil also served as Secretary of the Department of Tourism from 1995 to 1996.
