The head of the Caramoan Community College has expressed alarm over the rowdy behaviour of an emerging fraternity in the municipality which has been recruiting members not only from among students but also out-of-school youths. Dr. Miguel Borre, dean of the Caramoan Community College, said that fraternity members have been seen participating in scandalous celebrations indicating that they were under the influence of illegal drugs.
The college will promptly institute measures to dissuade students from joining the organization according to Borre but he proposed that the campaign should involve municipal and barangay officials.
Informed of the concern of the school official, Mayor Francis Benemerito said he will soon convene a dialogue with local and school officials on the issue.
He said he would also ask the support of Church and religious leaders in a total war against drug addiction.
Meanwhile, Mayor Benemerito also instructed the PNP to conduct its own campaign against drugs by going first against suspected drug suppliers and pushers.
He also asked the PNP to be more active and to improve its image following observations by community leaders that the drive against violations including illegal fishing and illegal logging had lately seemed to produce no appreciable results. There are reports of resurging blast fishing and fish poisoning around Caramoan Peninsula.
Mayor Benemerito also urged public school teachers to continuously inculcate in the minds of pupils and students the dangers and ill effects of drug addiction, the worst menace to the society today.
