The Caramoan Residents Association in Naga City and its Environs (CRANE) is setting up funds to be given out as reward for those who could give information to local government authorities on the suppliers of materials used in blast fishing and fish poisoning and sign affidavits that could lead to the apprehension of violators and filing of formal charges against them.
This was announced by CRANE president Dominador Alarkon Jr in a dialogue with Caramoan municipal officials and barangay captains Wednesday, August 16 even as he urged P/Sr. Insp. Gerry Necerio Ladia, Caramoan Station Commander, to intensify PNP effort in the on-going anti-illegal fishing campaign of Mayor Francis Benemerito.

At the dialogue, Mayor Benemerito appealed to coastal barangay captains to actively participate in the crucial campaign saying that while he has organized an anti-illegal fishing task force, barangay officials themselves on site are in the best position to pinpoint or arrest violators.
Sr. Inspector Ladia explained that not only barangay officials but ordinary citizens can arrest violators of fishery laws and illegal loggers.
CRANE also asked that gathering of diminishing varieties of shells like giant clams, helmet shells and trumpet shells be also strictly banned.

Mayor Benemerito said that as soon as he assumed as mayor in 2004 his first thrust was to stop all forms of illegal activities in the town.
He said he even stopped jueteng even if he was and still is being offered P120,000.00 a month by jueteng operators.
A number of apprehensions had been made in the illegal fishing and illegal logging campaign and appropriate cases have been filed in the court, Benemerito said.
