‘Balik Caramoan’ draws support from municipal, barangay officials

The Balik Caramoan Project of the Caramoan Residents Association in Naga City and its Environs (CRANE) has been assured full support by Caramoan municipal and barangay officials who are convinced that the tourism undertaking will be very beneficial to the town.

In a dialogue of CRANE officers with Caramoan municipal officials led by Mayor Francis Benemerito and Vice Mayor Juan Cordis, Jr. it was emphasized that the project would rekindle enthusiasm of Caramoanons who have established residences in the United States and other parts of the globe to come home and help accelerate development of the town.

CRANE officers were led by president Dominador Alarkon, Jr., executive vice president Dr. Dolly Roa Perez, who is chair of the Balik Caramoan Project committee; Sally Cordis Osga and Nora Rodriguez, committee members; Nimfa Medel Bichara and Melanio Alarcon, CRANE directors.

Dr. Perez disclosed that Caramoanons she met in the United States last year expressed their desire to visit their hometown but wanted the CRANE to coordinate their homecoming so that every day of their visit would have memorable activities they could keep for themselves or relate to other Caramoanons abroad. Some of them have been living abroad for 30 to 40 years without coming home according to Dr. Perez, Ms. Osga and Laurette Lejarde Ramirez, who all separately went to the US last year.

Alice Señar-Alarkon, CRANE director and Balik Caramoan Project Committee member, is now also in the US and starting to coordinate with homecoming Caramoanons.

In the dialogue, Dr. Perez sought the support of barangay captains in the preparation of master list of Caramoanons abroad.

She also emphasized that the initial task is to launch massive beautification activities in every barangay particularly those along the road route to be taken by tourists or homecoming Caramoanons.
The main roads would have to be upgraded and port services should be improved.

Caramoanons abroad are expected to come home by May 1 to 8, 2007 in time for the town fiesta which will be highlighted by numerous crowd-drawing activities.
