Ros Arcilla, Jr, 68

Multi-awarded Caramoanon artist Rosalio Beltran Arcilla, Jr. passed away after a brief illness on Monday, July 24, 2006 in Manila.

Sketchy text messages reaching CRANE MONITOR said that at press time his remains lie at Camilla Homes in Las Piñas but details of the date and place of his burial were not yet immediately known.

A nationally and internationally recognized painter and sculptor, Ros was married to Benny Obias Ampeloquio Arcilla, also a Caramoanon, with whom he had six children, now all married, who all finished college. They have so far 18 grandchildren.

Ros was elected president of the Union of International Sculptors in China in 2001. In 1996 he was commissioned by the national government to do several sculpted historical landmarks including the busts of 20 national heroes at the Luneta to commemorate the centennial of the Philippine Revolution. He also did the bust of Ninoy Aquino at the NAIA.

Ros held many art exhibits here in the Philippines and abroad which were widely acclaimed. Handiong and Daragang Magayon at the Camarines Sur Capitol grounds are samples of his quality outputs.
