At least six Caramoanon students will benefit this school year from the scholarship program of the Caramoan Residents Association in Naga City and its Environs (CRANE). CRANE, however, requires that not only the applicants should have the determination to pursue college but the parents must also commit to support the applicant while in college. CRANE will only provide free tuition fees. Parents need not be CRANE members.
Among the criteria set by the scholarship committee approved by the CRANE president are that the applicant should just be starting college and must have a general average of at least 85%. CRANE will also fund only specific courses that will most likely lead to immediate employment and will not underwrite courses like nursing which is too expensive and of which there is a surplus of graduates.
Once qualified, the scholar must not have a failing grade in any subject to be able to continue to enjoy the scholarship until graduation. The scholar should not be involved in a crime or an act involving moral turpitude and should never use prohibited drugs. The behavior of the scholar will be continuously monitored by CRANE scholarship committee composed of Ms. Alice Señar-Alarkon, chairperson; Romeo M. Borja, vice chairman; Sofronio Altez, Ms. Nuni B. Capucao and Ricardo Culvera, members.
The CRANE scholarship fund has been raised by the organization through contributions, fund raising activities and a P 100,000.00 allocation from the development fund of Congressman Luis R. Villafuerte.
