Amistad bares fiesta plans
This year’s Caramoan town fiesta on May 7 and 8 in honor of St. Michael Archangel could be the grandest fiesta celebration ever in this town if all activities planned by Amistad, the organization sponsoring the celebrations, materialize.
The group has informed the CRANE MONITOR that there is going to be a whole week of crowd-drawing activities from May 1 to 8, some never before seen in the town.
Boyet Culvera, Amistad president, said festivities will reel off Monday, May 1 with the 3-category Friendly Run Cup starting at 5:30 a.m. The first category will be for elementary pupils, the second category for high school students and the third is open to all running enthusiasts. A medical dental mission will also be conducted at 8:30 a.m.
On May 2 an art contest dubbed Gayon Caramoan will be held at the United High School. Manila-based artists will act as judges.
On May 3 children will have a chance to join in parlor games. In the afternoon up to evening a 3-cock derby will be held with cockfighting aficionados coming from all over Bicol.
More parlor games will be held on May 4 in the morning and in the evening the Grand Finals of the singing contest Sonata 2006 will be held at the LRV Millennium Stage.
On May 5 Amistad has tentatively scheduled the Go For Gold Boxing Championships but negotiation is still going on with the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines.
On May 6, fun drinkers will vie for prizes even as contestants prove which belly can hold the most beer.
The San Vicente, Camarines Norte band will be on hand to entertain the crowd. Earlier during the day bingo enthusiasts will try their luck on the P75,000.00 stakes spread over ten events.
A colorful civic and military parade is slated on May 7.
On May 8 the Grand Auditorium will be held for an entire evening of ballroom dancing.
Amistad is the newest socio-civic group in Caramoan, organized only on October 29, 2004.
Aside from Boyet Culvera, the core group includes Tony Co, Col. Santi Baluyot, Nonyi Fernandez, Henry Autor and Francis Riva.
Supporting the group as co-sponsors are Globe Telecom, PCSO, Ginebra San Miguel, Philippine Tourism Authority, United Laboratories and Philippine Airlines. WITH REPORTS FROM FRANCIS RIVA
